An Open Letter to My Kids….Politically Speaking.
Dear Mason, Jesse, and Alyson,
I’m going to talk plain to ya’ll about what it means *to me* to be a conservative republican, and I’m doing it in the form of an open letter because the first rule of hairdressing is you never talk about politics, but there is no such rule in blogging, so I’m gonna let it fly. Plus it will make my day extra interesting. I’m guessing some folks may be shocked to find that little, tattooed, Sondi Justice proudly checks a republican ballot, so see, this is fun already. I’m going to make this simple by putting my random conservative thoughts in a boiled peanut shell, which pretty much means that this letter is a rant. Southern style.
Let me clear my throat…..
Kids, I believe that government assistance is for those who can’t do for themselves, or for those who need help getting on their feet. It is meant for the sick, the elderly, and the needy. It is not meant for folks that are able to work to live off of and it’s also not meant to supplement income so you can go to Disney World every summer. I do not agree with folks that choose government assistance to help them out because they do not want to pay full price for insurance or groceries. They will pull into the grocery store parking lot in a brand new Tahoe, and they smell like suntan oil from laying by their pool all day. After shopping, they will shamelessly walk straight up to the cash register and pull from their Michael Kohrs pocket book, a Coach billfold, and from that, a dad gum EBT card. That spirit of entitlement is wrong. It is a shame. Everybody wants nice stuff, but nobody wants to hit a lick of work for it. It is only right that you EARN what you have, and it’s the only way you will ever appreciate what you have. I’m going to tell ya’ll straight up… nobody owe’s ya’ll a dang thing. I know that’s hard to swallow coming from your Mom but I ain’t known a soul yet to choke to death from swallowing the truth. Welfare is for those who legit neeeeeeeeeeed help. Remember when Amy (for those who don’t know, that is my Vietnamese nail tech) talked to us about her journey to America twenty years ago? She came here with paper shoes on her feet and her Daddy had 2 dollars in his pocket. For six months they received assistance while they found work and started a life. Since then, they’ve earned a wonderful life and given back. That is a great example of what welfare was designed for.
What word is all snuggled in the word conservative? CONSERVE. Work and SAVE your money. I reckon there are times I could be a better example, but the truth won’t choke and kill me either. IF YOU CAN’T AFFORD IT, DON’T GET IT. You work your butts off until you can afford it, then you go get it. And while I am at it…. about Christmas presents. Ya’ll get the kind of Christmas that a hair dresser and a construction worker can afford, not the kind of Christmas that a lawyer and a doctor can afford. That my children, is called life. Suck it up and move on. If you want to give your children the kind of Christmas that a doctor or a lawyer can afford then for Pete’s sake, you go to school and become a doctor or a lawyer. That is up to you, and you alone. If you don’t succeed in life, it’s not the governments fault, or anyone else’s for that matter. It is yours. That is just the plain truth. Maybe someday we can give ya’ll the kind of Christmas that a hairdresser and a T.V. star can afford, but that’s neither here nor there.
On death penalty… I believe that execution is a fitting punishment for the crime of murder.
On abortion… Life begins at conception. Abortion is murder.
On same sex marriage… Marriage was created by God to unite a man and a woman as husband and wife.
On immigration… I’m all about folks coming to America to start a new life, but they need to come in LEGALLY. Every able US citizen should work and pay taxes and communicate English. (Southern English is even better.)
On homeland security… I want our borders to be protected to help keep you kids safe. There are many people who hate, HATE us, and they would just as soon blow up our town than look at us. There are crazy people who’s life goal is to bring harm to us, even if they have to blow themselves up while they are at it. I’d prefer those jokers to stay out, thank you very much.
On stem cell research… Adult and umbilical cord yes. Embryonic no.
On global warming… Hogwash.
On prayer in public school… One of the saddest days in America is when they took prayer out of schools. My prayer is that some day it will be put back in, but until then I expect you to be the light.
On gun control… I believe gun control is a good firm grip and a steady trigger finger.
Listen guys, I could go on and on and on, but you will learn more from how I live than what I write. I believe in feeding the hungry. I believe in helping folks. I believe in serving others. I believe in hard work. I believe in The Constitution, and I believe that it is God inspired and that God is the cornerstone of our great nation. I try my hardest to live a life that pleases God and honors America.
Now this is just my opinion, some folks won’t like it and that’s fine, they can write their own blog. I’ve recently realized that everyone hates a bully, until they have a bully on their side. That’s when he is no longer a bully but he is “honest”, “unrehearsed”, and a “breath of fresh air”. It seems to this tattooed right winger that running to the furtherest end of the right, doesn’t balance out from standing on the furtherest end of the left. Crap fire, at the end of the day the wings are on the same dang bird.
Desperate people, do desperate things. They cast desperate votes. Mason, Jesse, and Alyson, when ya’ll are old enough to vote, make sure you vote not only for what you believe, but who will represent your nation with grace and dignity and integrity. Vote for a Godly man or woman that you can be proud of. The presidential role should never be made a mockery of.
With that said, remember that come November, regardless of who our president will be, it is God who is on the throne. The government is on His shoulders. Aim high without excuses and succeed with God as your guide. I’m so thankful for our freedom… to worship, to live, to speak, and to write.
God Bless America!
